Catalogue for the exhibition. The exhibition Račte vstoupoupit do teatadla is based on the half-forgotten phenomenon of theatre signs, showing their content and formal development and all the functions that signs and theatre posters have fulfilled and continue to fulfil: in their time they served as invitations to performances and often as artistic artefacts, and nowadays they are a unique source of theatrical research, enabling an accurate reconstruction of the repertoire of theatres. The exhibition is, however, conceived more broadly - as a picture of theatrical life in the Czech lands from the 17th century, when the first periochs of order scenes were created (the precursors of later signs), to the mid-20th century, with overlaps up to the present day. The signs for individual performances are therefore accompanied by other attractive exhibits illustrating theatrical production - scenic and costume designs, photographs, rare manuscripts and prints, realised costumes, models of scenes, props, paintings and busts. Emphasis is placed on those institutions whose history is mapped in detail thanks to theatre signs (the Estates, Provisional, National and Vinohrady theatres in Prague, the National Theatre in Brno, travelling companies...). Newly found objects from the 17th and 18th centuries will also be exhibited for the first time.
