The first volume of the newly established Drama Panorama series is dedicated to contemporary Czech drama. Since 2014 Drama Panorama has been presenting new plays in staged readings and guest performances at the festival of contemporary Czech drama Ein Stück: Tschechien. As the editor of the anthology Von Masochisten und Mamma-Guerillas, curator Barbora Schnelle selected plays that have already been presented at the festival and supplemented them with additional theatre texts. The themes range from the grotesque depiction of exploitation in the globalised world of work in Roman Sikora's Confessions of a Masochist, through the feminist plays of playwrights Anna Saavedra and Kateřina Rudčenková and the issue of multilingual relations (Eva Prchalová) to documentary themes of the Second World War, such as Tomáš Vůjtek's Hearing. Furthermore, a type of corrupt Czech politician with his passion for beer and roast goose is parodied (S.d.Ch.), the general cover-up of doping scandals of socialist athletes is analysed in a radio interview (David Drábek), relations to the contemporary concept of homeland are explored (David Zábranský) or ironic-utopian strategies of preserving Czech culture in the era of global migrations are developed (Petra Hulová). The book is published with the support of the Czech-German Future Fund, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Institute of Arts - Theatre Institute Prague and the Dilia o.s. agency.
