The new EU directive, which is now being planned, aims at lowering the consumption of electric energy in households, offices and industry in general. Unlike the previous ones, the new directive includes theatre, TV, concert, architectonic and event lighting and has not been granted the exemption anymore. It means that not only old theatre lighting and tungsten fixtures, but also state-of-the-art professional LED lighting do not meet the new regulations. But if the new directive comes into effect in 2020, the real dark age will fall on theatre and culture in general. Theatres, TV studios or event productions will not be able to buy new light sources in obsolete types of lighting or a lighting technology.
Therefore, the ATI and the Prague Quadrennial appeal for re-introduction of the exemption and exempt theatre and performative lighting from the planned regulation.
