The exhibition introduces the transformation in the use of costume and scenography from the oldest productions through to contemporary realisations by leading Czech artists. The exhibited works capture this development in relation to the art-historical context of the times, as well as illustrating the importance of Smetana’s oeuvre for creating and maintaining the tradition of Czech culture. Reproductions of artworks, photographs, and archival materials are presented in collaboration with the Theatre Department of the National Museum and the Archive of the National Theatre in Prague.
The exhibition is curated by Markéta Mansfieldová from the ATI Collections and Archive Department.
The exhibition will be on display in the USA in Washington and in the Czech Republic in Litomyšl.
